Bunka Busta was formed in 2004 by Byron & Bruno, out of a pure love for electronic music. The Bunka boys were also bored of watching DJs simply lay down records, and they decided to bring some "live show element" back to the club scene. Bunka Busta's live shows are bursting with energy as Byron drops loops and layers guitar and vocals on the fly over Bruno's bangin' beats. Bunka Busta's music breathes life into club music through their enticing melodies and their addictive lyrical flow. Electronic music is an
art form traditionally driven by drum machines, samplers, synthesizers and vinyl, well, for Byron, his foray into making music with a DJ as opposed to a band all started back in 1996. This was the year Daft Punk dropped their debut LP, Homework , and changed the face of electronic music, catapulting loop based house music out of the underground and proving its value as a "commercially" acceptable art form. Byron's sites Daft Punk's Homework and Bassment Jaxx as two of the most important influences in the Bunka Busta sound. Since 1996, he's been experimenting and pushing boundaries with guitars and vocals, doing something completely different, as he emulates the sounds of synthesizers with the use of filter modelers, dynamic wahs, the e-bow and Stanley Jordan guitar techniques. He has also experimented with various vocal techniques; one of the most interesting is that using Mongolian throat singing techniques, Byron is able to imitate electronically-altered sounds with his own natural voice. Through extensive
experimentation and innovation, Byron has crafted a truly unique sound. Bunka Busta's sound has been heavily influenced by many of the world's greatest electronic artists including: Kraftwerk, Daft Punk, Aphex Twin, Basement Jaxx, Kid Koala, Massive Attack, Tiga, Cassius, Felix the House Cat, Prodigy, Crystal Method, Mauro Picotto, and DJ Dan , to name a few. Byron's classical and jazz training, funked up with a profound fascination for 70s sounds, fused with his heavy electronic influences, has lead Bunka
Busta into an un-charted guitar-based electronic music territory, a place where there are no rules to follow. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to our world. Since the inception of Bunka Busta the group has performed more than 200 shows and is signed with the Milagro Records . Bunka Busta's first full length album, Rocket Roller Coaster, is scheduled to drop May 22nd, 2007 in Canada, and worldwide in the near future. Launch parties are scheduled for the 19th of May in Quebec City and Montreal on the 30 of May. See event blog on our MySpace page for details, our launch parties are free so come join the Bunka Busta movement. See you there!

Byron Mikaloff - A west-coast boy with east-coast sensibilities, Byron started his career in British Columbia with an interest in classical guitar (winning the Royal Conservatory of Toronto's first prize in their national guitar examination), while also touring with the Caledonia Jazz Band, playing everything from Glenn Miller to Pat Metheny, all the while teaching at the Terrace Little Theatre company.

In the early 90s, Byron headed east and set up shop in Québec City and began scholarship studies at the Conservatoire de musique de Québec where he performed in master classes with internationally known guitarists David Russell, Manuel Barrueco, David Tannenbaum, Elliott Fisk and Remi Boucher.

His rock career began with a number of early bands (Gypsy Moth, The Blokes) and then he helped to found the band One Ton in 1997, which eventually went on to sign with Warner Brothers Records. As composer and lyricist for the band, they were nominated for the Best New Band Juno Award in 2003 and also the ADISQ 2003 award for Best Non-French Québecois Album. Their song "Supersex World", from the album Abnormal Pleasures, placed as a top ten Canadian single in the summer of 2002 and was internationally released in Australia, New Zealand, Greece, Italy and Canada.

Byron's mastery of his instrument has won him awards all the way from traditional classical guitar competitions through to his June 1996 "Lick of the Month" recognition from famed American "Guitar Magazine."

Bruno Bouchard - Bruno was born in the proud province of Québec in 1972 and by the tender age of 14, knew exactly what he wanted most in life, that is, his own place in the world of "house-music". In 1989, at the ripe old age of 17, he won an award for best DJ in the province of Québec. In 2002 he founded Québec city's first regional DJ competition called "Technikal" held at the SONAR.

From 1986 through to the present, Bruno's been the resident DJ in seven of the hippest clubs in the province, after first designing and installing the sound systems in most of these places. His interest in "house-music" has kept him at the forefront of the scene and he brings his own style and intelligence to this music based on nearly 20 years of following the ins and outs of the industry.

His major interest is in the quality and texture of the music he manipulates. The technology itself, the manipulation of the sounds and, by extension, the space in the rooms where he works, all feed him the energy which he returns to the dance-floor while he's performing. For Bruno, being a DJ is a performing art. With Byron's new sounds beside him, Bruno is able to create a performance space that takes dancing to a brand new place.
